Colli Tortonesi Timorasso “Derthona”

Details

Timorasso is an indigenous grape variety found in the Piedmont area, in the province of Alessandria.  The soils and exposures on the hills (Colli) around Tortona provide excellent growing conditions.  Derthona is the ancient Roman name for the city of Tortona, which is located in the Colli Tortonesi.  As recent as the 1970’s, this vine was on its death bed.  Neglected, it was replaced by varieties easier to cultivate.  Then came the realization that this grape is something special with a huge potential.  Plantings expanded and now is recognized as one of the great Pimontese white wines.
