Riecine

Located in Gaiole,  in the northern zone of the Chianti Classico region. Historical church records show that the first wine farm called Riecine was established in 1112 AD, owned by a nearby monastery.  Riecine vineyards are among the best and finest of all Chianti Classico.

The founder of contemporary Riecine John Dunkley, an Englishman became one of the most admired producers of the new style Chianti Classico, based on Sangiovese. John and his  Italian wife Palmina Abbagnano, acquired the original 1.5 hectares of land in 1971 from the nearby monastery of Badia a Coltibuono. They restored the property and  began reviving and replanting vines. The first vintage of Chianti Classico, 1973, was released in 1975.

Today, the estate is run by the Lana Frank family, and it is still committed to the vision of Mr. Dunkley;  Sangiovese, a natural approach, certified organic, and following biodynamic processes in the vineyards.

Certified organic by ICEA.
